Thinking of starting a business?

Be the Boss

If you served in the UK Armed Forces and you're thinking of starting a small business in the UK, our Be the Boss scheme can help you get it off the ground.

How we help

In conjunction with our partners we can give you:

  • training in setting up a small business;
  • help with writing your business plan;
  • help with financial planning;
  • funding to help you launch and expand the business; and
  • business 'health checks' and mentoring.

Funding

If you're just starting up you can apply for funding of up to £7,500, and if you get start-up funding you can also apply for funding to grow the business once you've been trading successfully for six months.

If you've already got a business and you've been trading for more than 12 months and less than 24 months you can apply for funding of up to £30,000.

Funds are a mixture of grants and loans and go up to a maximum of £30,000 per person.

If your business gets funding you will also be offered business mentoring and regular health checks. This will help you to identify and resolve problems and manage revenue and debt effectively.
