News & events

The Branch in Sudbury is very active and successful. We meet every month at the Northcroft Social Club premises in Sudbury either with a Branch meeting, or open meetings when speakers come to talk to us on a variety of subjects. Meetings are normally held on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 7.30pm, unless stated otherwise. The bar downstairs is open before and after meetings. Further information about events may be seen by clicking the Navigation Bar at the side.

The President receives his jewels from the Chairman

At the Branch Meeting on 8th March the new Branch President Air Commodore Peter Maybury was presented with the President's Jewel by Colin our Branch Chairman.

England victorious.JPG

A couple of pictures from the "Escape to Victory" re-enactment at Cochester United's Weston Homes ground on 5th June. It was interesting at least to see so many German war-time military uniforms everywhere and they did put on a very professional enactment of the whole occasion. A disappointing number of spectators turned up but those that were present enjoyed a football game the outcome of which was predetermined, and needless to say, England won!

Concert.jpg

Finale of the very successful RAF Honington Band Concert on 9th July. A varied and interesting programme was presented to an almost packed hall including a popular session of Sing-Along songs. Notable among the patrons was John Farmer the National RBL Chairman, Sudbury Mayor Tony Platt and other civic dignitaries. Thanks go to Alan Brockbank for organising this for us, and also to many others for their support both for the event itself and as an audience. An amazing amount of £1370 was raised for the Poppy Appeal.

It's not every day that the Standard Bearers are called upon to stand in a line-up with a Bride & Groom. This was after the Two Minutes Silence on 11/11 when we were asked to stay back for this photo to be taken. The couple should not forget their wedding anniversary in a hurry!    Photo by Jane Brockbank.
