Sudbury Suffolk Branch
The Branch in Sudbury is very active and successful. They meet
every month at the Northcroft Social Club premises in Sudbury
either with a Branch meeting or open meetings when speakers come to
talk to us on a variety of subjects. Meetings are normally on the
second Tuesday starting at 7.30pm. The bar downstairs is open
before and after meetings.
Additionally they organise social events ranging from BBQs, Fish
& Chip Suppers and outings to places of interest such as the
Mechanical Music Museum, the Royal Chelsea Pensioner's Hospital,
RAF Mildenhall, RAF Wattisham, RAF Honington, RAF Neatishead, and
the National Memorial Arboretum in the Midlands, to mention
but a few.
They also take part in County events and join with other
branches in their activities around the county.
Additionally, from time to time in the past, outings have been
arranged to places like Yarmouth, Southend, Bulmer Brick Works,
Greene King Brewery, Cannon Avent, dog racing at Mildenhall, horse
racing at Newmarket, Bletchley Park Code Centre, the Suffolk Show,
Giffords Hall vineyard, an old-vehicle restorer, Ypres, the
Battlefields of northern France, even caravanning weekends.
It all adds up to a varied, active and interesting means of
meeting with friends with similar interests.
Awards
Over the past ten years we have achieved several awards
starting with the County Small Branch Efficiency Award, followed
the next year by the Medium Branch Award and the year after that by
the Large Branch Efficiency Award. This was partly due to the
increase in membership and performance of the Branch and also
because the parameters for the award changed slightly! With a gap
of a year we once again achieved the Large Branch Award plus being
Runners Up in the National Lister Cup Award. The certificate for
this was presented by the National President to our delegate at the
National Conference. Since then we have won the Suffolk County
Large Branch Efficiency Trophy for no less than seven
consecutive years and been runners-up for the Haig Trophy Cup in
2009.
In 2007 the Branch was awarded the prestigious Haig Cup, a
national award for efficient branches, so, a feather in the cap for
Sudbury and also for the county of Suffolk. For the latest news on
awards, visit our News & Events
