Eternal Father

Reading a magazine whilst on holiday Derik Dalby (member) came upon a piece written by somebody who had visited South Africa over the Remembrance day period, (he had completed his training as a royal airforce navigator at Port Elizabeth in 1944,) whilst there he contacted the RAF Ass and was invited to the Remembrance day service at Fish Hoek, what caught Deriks eye in the mag was the change of words to verses two and three of the hymn “Eternal Father” and thought them interesting enough to be considered for our website and our Remembrance Day service.

Eternal father strong to save
Whose arm doth bind the restless waves
Who biddst the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep
O hear us when we cry to thee
For those in peril on the sea.

O christ, the universal lord
Who suffered death by nails and sword,
From all assault of deadly foe
Sustain thy soldiers where they go
And evermore hold in thy hand
All those in peril on the land.

O holy spirit, lord of grace
Who fills with strength the human race
Inspire mankind to know the right
guide all who dare with eagles flight
And underneath thy wings of care
Guard all from peril in the air.

O trinity of love and power
Our brethren shield in dangers hour
From rock and tempest fire and foe
Protect them wheresoe'er they go
thus evermore shall rise to thee
Glad hymns of praise, from land and sea.
