JOB DESCRIPTION FOR ST.CLEER COMMITTEE MEMBERS
PRESIDENT -
a person of some standing within our branch who is approached by
the committee to undertake this position.
CHAIRMAN. -
this position would be filled by a person gently nudged into
volunteering who is known to have the capacity to keep up to
seventy five adults in order during monthly meetings, the chairman
is the co-ordinator of all the sections which have officers or
organisers, this dialogue must be continuous to enable the chair to
bring a formal agenda to any meeting, this in turn ensures a
certain discipline and protocol injected into the
branch.
VICE-CHAIRMAN -
the vice-chairman certainly needs the attributes of the chairman,
it is imperative that the vice-chairman should be kept up to speed
in consultation with the chairman at all times, so as to assume
these duties when called upon to do so.
BRANCH SECRETARY -
deals with all branch correspondence and returns, takes the
minutes of both the committee and member's meetings, produce and
dispatches minutes to members, keeps up to date on RBL.rules and
constitution, advises the chairman and the committee on them, keeps
up to date branch records.
MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY -
deals with new members' documentation, membership renewals and
changes, maintains branch membership records, and could understudy
the branch secretary in his absence.
MINUTES SECRETARY -
takes the minutes of both the committee and members
minutes, produces and dispatches minutes to members, this job
is important as the minutes are in fact kept as a reference library
of all the branch activities.
BRANCH TREASURER -
controls the financial side of the branch, and operates the bank
account. Briefs members at meetings, on the state of the branch
finances, produces an annual account which must be
audited.
THE CHAPLAIN -
self-explanatory.
WEFARE OFFICER -
this position would be filled by a person who has been trained as
a case worker, which qualifies them to take on cases reported
locally or passed on by county. Unfortunately the need for this
officer is not diminishing.
POPPY APPEAL ORGANISER -
where all officers and organisers are so important to the
successful running of our branch, the PAO. really comes in to his
own at our special time of the year, the poppy appeal period. a lot
of behind the scenes work for some months before and after must be
carried out, the PAO's greatest difficulty is to convince all the
personnel in our branch to play our small (but very necessary) part
which is the collecting, so as to achieve another good year for our
charity.
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER -
this officers task is to keep the public up to date via the media
on our events and accomplishments,
(they won't come if they don't know where to go), and it raises
our profile as a local branch of a big charity, which in turn
encourages membership.
STANDARD BEARERS - (TWO)
every service has them, ships, regiments and squadrons, and we're
just as proud to have our branch standard paraded with the union
flag whenever we march, or present at an official function to
remind us of why we're a member of a great organisation, the two
bearers of these symbols must be meticulous in dress and
disciplined in presentation because they represent us and what we
stand for.
WAR MEMORIAL -
the "caretaker" of our war memorial has the responsibility of
keeping our branches other visual image to
the public in immaculate order, the maintenance of which extends
to the pavement surround, a bench and flagpole standing on it, the
other duty being the raising of the union flag at all state
occasions, royal birthdays, etc., also the sad task of a
"half-mast" on the demise of a branch member.
SOCIAL EVENTS ORGANISER -
this organisers job is to keep us amused and entertained,
sounds jolly, but can be time consuming and frustrating, the
organiser not only has to, set up an event, make it ridiculously
cheap, at tremendous value for money, but then has to convince us
we need to get out a bit more!
RAFFLES AND FUND RAISER -
this organiser will move in when an event has been
organised which looks ripe for a raffle / auction / whip-round /
bingo / horse racing or anything else that has made the "SEO's"
promise of it being ridiculously cheap, appears to be a fib! once
again the getting together of prizes, laying out of stalls, a
multitude of things are all time consuming.
OTHER COMMITTEE MEMBERS -
at present we have just the one, they are used for introducing
ideas, discussing points of the meeting, and can be asked to do the
small jobs that fall outside of the remit of the sections within
the branch, they can also be approached by any member to put a
question of any relevance for them at a committee meeting.
(This is our method of hearing the views of some members who do
not like to stand up and address a meeting of members). They also
have a vote.
