The Poppy Appeal in Portugal
POPPY APPEAL 2011 - Shoulder to shoulder with ALL who
serve
The Portugal Branch is proud to announce that over
€34,000 was raised this year €31,000 of this
in Remembrancetide and €3,000 in the special 90th
Appeal. In the current economic climate this is an outstanding
amount and our thanks go to all organisers, distributors and
individual collectors for their unselfish commitment to the
Appeal.
Thank you too to the organisations that hold events for us every
year. To the businesses, churches, and airports who allowed poppies
to be displayed and sold in their premises; to those who held
dances and auctions or sent cheques; And to our wonderful ex-pat
community in Portugal who, year after year, put their money in the
tins and so help us to keep the faith with those who gave
everything for our freedom.
The need goes on - and we will go on. See you all next
year!
Do you know areas where there are no poppies on
sale but potential outlets? And could you distribute to such an
area? The average time you need to give to the Appeal in this role
is a maximum of 16 hours a year - 8 in October and 8 in November.
Please think about it and, if you can help, telephone 289791699 or
919055959 and speak to Sandra Wilkinson or contact any committee
member.
2011 Poppy Shield Winners
The Algarve Lawn Bowls Clubs held the final of the annual Poppy
Shield competition at Pedras del Rainha with all proceeds going to
the 2011 Poppy Appeal. The photo shows the winners Dave
Forshaw and Myra Wood from Vila da Luz LBC being presented with the
Shield by Sandra Wilkinson the Poppy Appeal organiser for the East
Algarve. 10 minutes after this photo was taken, Myra fell and broke
her wrist! Everyone at RBL Algarve wishes her well for a speedy
recovery.

90th ANNIVERSARY POPPY APPEAL
90 Glorious Years of The Royal British Legion (1921- 2011) and
earlier this year we asked for donations from members for the
special 90th Anniversary Poppy Appeal.
The Portugal Branch raised over €3000 from
individual donations and Poppy parties/functions. This is a
fantastic achievement for our Branch and well done and
'Thank You' to everyone who contributed in any
way.
POPPY APPEAL 2010 - WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!
The Portugal Branch is proud to announce that over
€32,000 was raised this year. It was not easy to
achieve this in the current economic climate and our thanks go to
all organisers, distributors and individual collectors for their
unselfish commitment to the Appeal.
Thank you too to the organisations who hold events for us
every year. To the businesses, churches, and airports who allow
poppies to be displayed and sold in their premises. To those who
ran sponsored races or held dances or sent cheques. And to our
wonderful ex-pat community in Portugal who, year after year, put
their money in the tins and so help us to keep the faith with those
who gave everything for our freedom.
The need goes on - 2011 is the 90th Anniversary of
the founding of the Royal British Legion - and we will go on.
See you all next year!
