The Poppy Appeal in Carlisle and Stanwix
2010 Poppy Appeal exceeds £82,000!!!!
We've done it again!! The recent announcement by our
PAO Margaret Wadsworth that the 2010 Poppy Appeal has now
exceeded £82,000 was greeted with an element of
disbelief!!
Carlisle and Stanwix Branch appreciates all the outside
help from the Rotary Club, Women's Institutes, Cadets and RAF
Spadeadam received in so many ways. However, many
members who could assist with giving an hour or so when doing their
weekly trip to the shops - Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons etc.
With the start of the 2011 Appeal looming large, it is important
that we get as many members and friends as possible working for the
Appeal. The competition for money is fierce. "Some members did
more than 30 hours collecting over the period last year - many
members didn't do even ONE HOUR" - that's a bit disheartening!
But thanks went to the Team Leaders, Eddie Oaten (Southwaite),
Charlie Durham (The Range), Geoff Chorlton (Somerfield), Doug
Mitchell (B&Q), Bob Batson (House of Fraser), Irene
Stephenson (Marks and Spencer), Richard Sellors (Both Tescos),
Robbie Reid Sinclair (Morrisons), Mervyn Lindsley (ALDI), and Tony
Parrini (ASDA) and all their bands of helpers for raising over
£45,000 between them!
WE ARE LOOKING AHEAD TO THE POPPY APPEAL 2011 AND
NEED MORE SUPPORTERS WILLING TO GIVE A FEW HOURS TO MAN A STALL AT
ONE OF THE MAJOR STORES IN CARLISLE. IF YOU CAN ASSIST, PLEASE CALL
0800 085 5924 DURING OFFICE HOURS AND TELL THEM THAT YOU WISH TO
ASSIST THE CARLISLE AND STANWIX BRANCH DURING THE POPPY
APPEAL.
