Poppy Appeal 90th Anniversary

POPPY APPEAL 2011

The Boston & District Poppy Appeal 2011 was launched at the Hammer and Pincers on Wednesday 26 October 2011.

We were honoured to have the Mayor Cllr Mrs Mary Wright to officially launch the Appeal, also the British Legion has been chosen by Cllr Wright to be one of her chosen charities for the year.

40th Birthday

At our October meeting we were presented with a cheque for £510-00 from Mrs Alison Lynch, this was the amount collected for her 40th Birthday.  Alison, whose husband Aidy is currently serving in the Royal Air Force, decided that she wanted to honour a friend of hers who lost her battle with cancer just before her own 40th birthday.  Thank you very much Alison.

Lincolnshire Poppy Appeal Launch

Saturday 29 October saw the Lincolnshire Launch of the Poppy Appeal at East Kirkby Aviation Centre.  We were very pleased to have one of the Junior Sea Cadets from TS Cottesmore Bethany Mason win the Lord Lieutenant's Cup.

Later on Saturday saw local cadet forces and Legion members collect at Boston United's ground during the match against Colwyn Bay.  A magnificent £411-53 was raised.

The Poppy Run

The Ninth Annual Poppy Run organised by Peter Arnott of Boston Athletic Club, was held on Sunday 30 October.  Peter had real cause to celebrate as after going it alone for the last eight years, finally the Poppy Run had 'gone national', with other runs being held at various other locations.

The poppies are now in the shops and a very much needed and appreciated band of collectors have started their 'not so easy' task of collecting as much money as they possible can in the next two weeks.  Wouldn't it be great if we could beat last years total of just over £22,500-00?

If you need a wreath,  would like Poppy collection box or can spare even an hour to help collect please contact me on 01205 311373 or 07934 485129 or email rblpa@dransome.plus.com or fax 01205 361317, all help is most welcome.
