The Poppy Appeal in Bedford & District
Bedford and District Branch raised over
£50,000 for the Poppy Appeal in 2010/11 and is looking to
improve that figure during the current year.
Well done to everybody who helps with the appeal in whatever
capacity and a big Thank You to all the people of Bedford and
surrounding areas who never cease to amaze us with their
generosity. Truly, they have shown that they have deep pockets in
tough times.
Poppy People
The current Poppy Appeal year runs from 1st October 2011 to 30th
September 2012. Anyone interested in helping with the Poppy Appeal
should contact our Poppy Appeal Organiser, Angela
Parker, on 01234 266803. This could be
distributing collecting tins, door-to-door collecting, supermarket
stands, or you could undertake a sponsored event. There are many
tasks to undertake and we need more hands !
Poppy Shop
Bedford is one of the few places in the country to boast a Poppy
Shop, where the public have direct access to poppies, crosses,
wreaths and other tokens of remembrance of the fallen and
wristbands, badges and other items to show their support for the
Appeal. Angela and her team put on a display each year in an empty
shop in the town and this year were lucky to use a vacant
unit near Argos in the Harpur Square. The shop has now
closed for 2011 but look out for the shop again next year !
Please contact Angela on 01234 266803 for
more details nearer Armistice Day.
