Poppy Calls reach Carephone milestone

26 July 2011

The Royal British Legion has partnered with Cirrus, a leading provider of Telecare and safety systems, and with Careline UK, one of the largest Telecare monitoring centres in the UK, to provide a personal alarm service called Carephone to our beneficiaries.

Head of Poppy Calls Frances Parker (R) receives the cheque from Sarah Reeves of CirrusAs part of the partnership agreement, Cirrus agreed to make a donation of £1,000 for every 500 Carephones supplied and Head of Poppy Calls Frances Parker was delighted to receive a cheque for £1,000 from Sarah Reeves, Business Development Executive for Cirrus, in a presentation at the Legion's head office in July after they reached that milestone.

Frances said: "The partnership between Cirrus Communications and Poppy Calls continues to grow and helps us to achieve our objective of enabling independence for our beneficiaries."

Carephones enable beneficiaries to be just a button press away from help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and give peace of mind to anxious relatives as evidenced by these words from a beneficiary's husband: "Despite my wife's illness the Carephone enables me to carry on going to work, knowing that she can call for support while I am away from home."

All Carephone ordering is dealt with through the Poppy Calls Administration Centre.  The units and first year of monitoring are supplied free to anyone who has served in the Armed Forces for seven days or more (or their dependants) and who is in receipt of a means-tested benefit.

Frances said: "As well as administering the Carephone applications, Poppy Calls can also install the Carephone units and fit keysafes if required, in areas where a Poppy Calls van is in operation."
