TV star pins poppy on Prime Minister
31 October 2011
Prime Minister David
Cameron received his poppy on the steps of Downing Street this
morning from TV presenter Gethin Jones and London Poppy Appeal
collectors Katy Ford and Sam Amer.
The Poppy Appeal is the nation's largest and most loved fundraising campaign in support of the British Armed Forces. This year's Appeal, which was launched by Gethin in London last Thursday, is asking the public to join The Royal British Legion in standing "Shoulder to shoulder with all who serve".
Commenting after he met the Prime Minister, Gethin said:
"I was delighted to present the Prime Minister with a poppy this morning. He took a lot of time to hear about the great work of the Legion, and like everyone else, will be wearing his poppy with pride."
A UK-wide poster campaign supporting the Poppy Appeal has also been unveiled today. The posters featuring well known personalities including Helen Mirren, Andy Murray, Katherine Jenkins and Lorraine Kelly will be seen around the country until Remembrance Sunday.
Notes to Editors:

Forces past and present and their families. It is also the national
Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant
between the nation and its Armed Forces. It is best known for the
annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem, the red poppy.
