The Poppy Appeal gets an iPhone app

04 November 2009

The Royal British Legion has developed an iPhone Application in support of this year's Poppy Appeal.

Available to download on any iPhone or iPod touch device from today, the Mobile Poppy app is an innovative and interactive take on the traditional symbol of Remembrance.

iPhone Mobile Poppy appIt features amongst other things, a poppy that will grow incrementally every day from the date of download, reaching full maturity and blossoming on Wednesday 11 November at 11.00am. Other features of the application include a watering can to help you keep your poppy healthy during Remembrancetide, a selection of backgrounds and poems including the famous, 'In Flanders' Fields', a day and night feature and most importantly of all, the option of inviting others to partake in this unique way of showing support for our Armed Forces community.

Director of National Events and Fundraising, Russell Thompson OBE said: "The 'Mobile Poppy app' is reflective of how the Legion is striving to create innovative ways for a new generation to show their support and remember especially those members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives fighting in Afghanistan, whilst at the same time remembering all our fallen heroes."

Developed by www.avatarlondon.com, the Mobile Poppy iPhone application is available for download from today and will cost either 59p for the Gold Edition or £2.99 for the Platinum Edition. Search for Mobile Poppy on your iPhone or click here for more information.
