Add your photo and message to our shoulder to shoulder campaign
27 October 2011
As part of the 2011 Poppy Appeal, the Legion today unveiled a
major social media campaign to capture public support and
encouragement for British Armed Forces.
Members of the public are encouraged visit shouldertoshoulder.org.uk, upload an
image of themselves and write a personal message of support to
members of the Armed Forces. Contributors will receive an exclusive
link to their picture showing them standing shoulder to shoulder
with all who serve. There is also an option to upload an image via
Facebook.
A number of celebrities have already
signed up to the campaign including the Saturdays, who launched the
2010 Poppy Appeal, Gethin Jones, Andy Murray and Barbara Windsor.
Barbara's message to the Forces reads: "To the brave men and women
who protect us. You have my love and prayers. Come home safely and
soon. X"
A number of photos have already been uploaded by members of the public keen to offer their thoughts, prayers and support to our Armed Forces. Some of the more poignant messages read "I'll never forget my brave hero" and another that simply reads "Thank you Dad".
Russell Thompson OBE, Director of Fundraising, said, "Over the past few years we have seen a rise in the number of people wishing to show their support for the Poppy Appeal online and we felt this was a great way for people to join us standing shoulder to shoulder with those who serve.
"Of course, everyone who wears the paper poppy is also standing shoulder to shoulder. It doesn't really matter whether you wear your poppy on the street or online - just so long as you wear your poppy with pride."
