Send a Father's Day message to Afghanistan
11 June 2010
It's Father's Day on Sunday 20 June and the Sunday Mirror is planning a morale-boasting surprise for the brave dads serving in Afghanistan, with the support of The Royal British Legion.
They are joining forces with the loved ones of our courageous troops to let them know that, despite the thousands of miles between us, we are thinking of them all.
On Father's Day, the Sunday Mirror will be devoting special pages of the paper and online editions to give children the chance to send personal messages and pictures to their dads. So if your dad is serving in Afghanistan and you want to send him a wonderful Father's Day greeting, then it couldn't be easier to tell him how proud you are.
Just email a message to fathersday@sundaymirror.co.uk or upload a message at www.sundaymirror.co.uk/fathersday.
Please state clearly the name, rank and unit of your loved one, including their regiment, battalion or squadron and say who the message is from and a short message. So the email should be in the following format
TO: Name/Regiment/Unit
FROM: Name/Relationship ie son/daughter
YOUR MESSAGE: No more than 25 words
Children can also send a photo or drawing that can be used in the paper or online. Sorry but these cannot be returned so please make sure you have copies.
An MoD spokesperson said, "It's always difficult to be separated from your loved ones so the support shown to our troops in this campaign really is appreciated".
He explained that troops will be able to see the messages you send to the Sunday Mirror on the internet through free email and internet access at forward locations.
And the British Forces Postal Office have installed 13 new Eblueys, computer terminals where troops can also send messages back home as well, which are written in the form of an email but are delivered like a letter through the post.
The Sunday Mirror will do their best to put as many of your messages as they can in the paper on Sunday 20 June 2010, and all of the messages will be published online so your dad will see it too.
But do hurry - as messages have to be received by noon Wednesday 16 June 2010.
