Poppyscotland and The Royal British Legion
14 April 2011
In September
2010, Poppyscotland informed its supporters and stakeholders of a
decision taken by its board of directors to examine the feasibility
of a potential merger with The Royal British Legion. Since the
initial approach, extensive discussions have been ongoing between
our two charities and a great deal of common ground has been
established between us.
The Legion operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The common ground could result in significant improvements in the provision of services for veterans and their families living in Scotland, the level of which Poppyscotland is not able to achieve given its current size and resources.
Poppyscotland has called an extraordinary general meeting for Tuesday 10 May. Its members will be invited to give their feedback on detailed merger proposals which envisage:
- the continuation of Poppyscotland as a separate charity within a wider Royal British Legion poppy charity grouping
- the continuing operation of The Scottish Poppy Appeal, and
- the continuing manufacture of the Scottish Poppy at the Lady Haig Poppy Factory.
Poppyscotland members will also be asked to vote on these proposals at the extraordinary general meeting. More details will be published on www.poppyscotland.org.uk immediately following the meeting.
