Legion's Learning Pack wins prestigious CIPR award

02 June 2011

Learning Pack 2010/2011The Royal British Legion was a winner last evening at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Excellence Awards, in the Publications category.

The PR industry's most credible, competitive and prestigious awards presented top honours to The Royal British Legion Learning Pack.

Our schools resource was chosen above a daunting shortlist including a weighty bid from BAE Systems for the HMS Astute commissioning book and Drinkaware for the mass market unit and calorie counter.

Judges said of our Learning Pack: "Making Remembrance relevant to a young audience, (the pack is) a genuinely outstanding piece of work comprehensively providing excellent education material.

"Featuring fabulous imagery and good interactive materials, it delivered a major scale campaign balancing emotions with key messages consistent with its brand."

It was the first time in its 14 year history that the Learning Pack was put forward for consideration at the awards. We produce 65,000 Learning Packs, including posters, teaching resources and interactive CD-ROMs, which are sent to the nation's schools, educators, Legion volunteers and all UK Boys' Brigades.

A further 3,500 are produced in the Welsh language; while 20,000 postcards are sent to schools allowing young people to express their gratitude to recovering Service personnel and elderly veterans alike.

More than 2 million children benefit from the pack, while our commissioned independent survey showed that 95% of teachers are satisfied with it and 96% would recommend it to others.

Special recognition is due to its creators on our Learning Team, Helen Hill, Paula Kitching and James Thomson, who were present to receive the award.

More information on The Royal British Legion Learning Pack and how to order one, is available on our Schools and Learning microsite. The Learning Pack is updated each year and the 2011/2012 issue will be available in late June.
