Celebrity supporters join the Legion for Christmas Celebration

17 December 2009

The Legion held its annual Christmas Celebration at the magnificent Guildhall in the City of London on Wednesday 16 December.

Timothy Ackroyd, Nerys Hughes and Alastair StewartIn a varied programme of traditional carols, seasonal music and words of celebration, guests joined us in the historic 800 year old building to get into a seasonal mood and start off Yuletide celebrations in style.

The event proved to be an evening of great entertainment as well as an opportunity to help raise vital funds for the Legion’s welfare work for serving and ex-Service people and their families.

Guests were entertained by celebrity supporters Nerys Hughes, who personally chose to read Willy Russell’s 'The Nativity Play' from Shirley Valentine, and Timothy Ackroyd (ably deputising for Pam St Clement who had to pull out due to Eastenders filming commitments).

The event was hosted by stalwart Legion supporter and ITN news presenter, Alastair Stewart who also added his inimitable style to 'Reginald’s Christmas Revel' by Saki.

Guests contributed on the night by making donations for programmes and raffle tickets, topping up the impressive fundraising total of over £100,000.
