St George's Day Celebration 2009

The Royal British Legion held its annual St George's Day Celebration at St George's Church, Hanover Square in Mayfair on Thursday 23 April. The evening was themed, 'Abroad' and included readings from Bill Bryson's hugely popular novel 'Notes from a Small Island' and the quintessentially English P G Wodehouse.

Music was provided by the Central Band of The Royal British Legion and included works by much loved English composers as well as the traditional hymns of 'I vow to thee my country' and 'Jerusalem'.

Martyn Lewis, Jenny Agutter, Sophie Thompson and David Haig at the 2009 St George's Day CelebrationNewsreader Martyn Lewis hosted the evening and was joined by celebrity supporters David Haig, Sophie Thompson and Jenny Agutter. Also in attendance were Service Personnel from the Household Cavalry Regiment based at Windsor.

After the concert guests attended a champagne reception at the Oriental Club in Mayfair. All proceeds go to support The Royal British Legion's work assisting serving and ex-Servicemen and women and their dependants.
