Legion statement on Public Bodies Bill vote in House of Commons

26 October 2011

The Legion is saddened that this opportunity to do the right thing by bereaved Service families was not taken tonight by the Government and mystified by the arguments put forward by the Justice Minister, Jonathan Djanogly MP.

Leave it out KenBut our campaign for a Chief Coroner will continue - the Bill now has to go back to the Lords, who defeated the Government on this issue before. We are confident Peers will again highlight the numerous flaws in the Government's proposals.

Bereaved Armed Forces families, the public and the Legion are all certain that the only way to ensure fundamental reform of the coroners system - which is desperately needed - is through the appointment of an independent Chief Coroner.
