Gulf Veterans Medical Assistance Programme
10 October 2010
Veterans' associations are invited to note the ongoing services of Gulf Veterans' Medical Assessment Programme (MAP). The MAP was originally set up in July 1993 to examine UK Gulf veterans who were concerned that their health had been adversely affected by service in the 1990/1991 Gulf Conflict. In recent years the programme has been extended to include Porton Down Volunteers and those who have served in the current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as providing mental health assessments for veterans who have seen military service since 1982.
The MAP will now provide a new capability - mental health assessments for those veterans who have deployed on operations since 1982 and are concerned that they have a service related mental health problem that is not fully understood within the NHS.
Personnel and Veterans may be aware of a class action taking place through US Courts where claimants are alleging that their health was affected by working at the Qarmat Ali Water Treatment Plant in 2003. A small number of ex RAF Service personnel have joined this legal action. The MAP is available to support any personnel who have concerns that their health has been adversely affected by service during Op TELIC.
The MAP is located at St Thomas' Hospital, London. Further
details can be found at:

Any Veterans considering attending MAP should attend their GP for consideration of referral in to the service.
