Remembrance Sunday 2009

As the custodians of Remembrance, The Royal British Legion is calling on the nation to unite in commemorating Remembrance Sunday at the 2009 Cenotaph Parade in Whitehall on 8 November.

The Cenotaph ceremony is organised annually by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, with The Royal British Legion coordinating the March Past.

More details of this year's participants are available in the press release. The parade will be broadcast on BBC One from 10.25am.

Please note that First Capital Connect have announced that owing to a lack of available drivers, there will be no First Capital Connect train services on the Great Northern route this Sunday. Please check their website for details.

Songs of Praise

There will be once again be a special Songs of Praise to mark Remembrance Sunday. Pam Rhodes will visit Wootton Bassett, the market town which has become the focus of national grief for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in current conflicts.

The programme will feature interviews with local people including Anne Bevis, The Royal British Legion's branch secretary who helped initiate the street-lined tributes paid to Armed Forces repatriated to nearby RAF Lyneham.

The show will also pay tribute to the last three veterans of the First World War who all died this year and there will be traditional hymns played including I Vow to Thee My Country, and O Valiant Hearts.

Broadcast on BBC One at 4.55pm.
