Pegasus 65 - Run to Pegasus

04 June 2009 - 06 June 2009

Project 65 logoPegasus 65 - Run to Pegasus is a 65 mile challenge run which follows the route that 6 HORSA Gliders took to carry men from 52nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry to their objective; Pegasus Bridge in Normandy in June 1944.

The run will be staged over 21 hours running time and leaves Tarrant Rushton Airfield at 1400 on Thursday 4th June. From there, the 200 strong group will make their way towards the New Forest for a 1 hour rest and food stop at Lyndhurst and then on again towards Portsmouth. The group will arrive at the ferry terminal at approximately 1200 on Friday 5th June and board the 6 hour crossing to Caen.

Once in Ouistreham, the group will assemble into a formation of 6 glider groups, with each runner representing a man from the Coup de Main operation of 1944. They will then run the remaining 3 miles and arrive at Pegasus Bridge at precisely 0016, the exact time that Glider no.1 crashed into the barb-wire defenses in the opening minutes of D-Day 1944.

Each runner is requested to raise £1000 in sponsorship and will be able to set up their own fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/project65charity

There are still places left for this incredible challenge run so sign up today. The aim of Pegasus 65 is to raise £500,000. Some funds will be used to create a memorial and the remainder will be split between the six of the most influential military charities that support serving and ex-military personnel: The Royal British Legion, BLESMA, St Dunstan's, RAF Benevolent Fund, Army Benevolent Fund, and Help for Heroes.
