Dance Day UK

25 September 2010

Dance UKThe fabulous duo, the Swingtime Sweethearts, Annie Riley and Le'arna Ashleigh (pictured here with the all time Forces sweetheart Vera Lynn) have joined forces with the Strictly Come Dancing star Erin Boag, to help launch what  could be one of the largest fundraising events of its kind.

Dance Day UK is inviting anyone and everyone to support this event by organising dance events across the country, on or around the 25 September. For the event's first year (2010), the monies raised will be going to:

  • The Royal British Legion
  • The British Limbless Ex-Services Association (BLESMA)
  • The Not Forgotten Association
  • Norcare Veterans Programme
  • The Forces Children's Trust.

The organising team of Gill Taylor, who works with Veterans, and Lucy Holloway from Dance Shack in Leatherhead say that "We are a tiny team but we are sure that the great British public will do what they do best and get behind us in raising funds for these charities that do such an amazing job".

Ms Taylor explained, "Dance Day UK is about raising desperately needed funds for charities that look after and support our Serving and Ex-Service men, women and their families. Our Armed Forces serve our country without question and, for many, the real battles only begin when they return home, often injured both physically and psychologically. Many need the help and support that these charities offer and that is why we are  asking everyone to get behind us for what will be an extraordinary fundraiser."
