Frequently asked questions

Who chooses the Judges?

The Royal British Legion has appointed an independent chair and a panel of judges who are independent of the awards administration.

What are the entry criteria for the awards?

The Friends of the Forces Awards is open to individuals of any age, to community groups in the not for profit and public sector environment and to commercial organisations. For further details please see the category criteria section of the website.

When and how will the Regional and National awards winners be announced?

The regional awards will be announced on this website in May. If you are a winner you will be contacted individually by the Awards team. The shortlisted finalists for the national awards will be announced on this website in June. If you are shortlisted you will contacted individually by the Awards team.

Is there a regional awards ceremony?

There is not a regional awards ceremony. The 32 regional winners will be presented with their award in a local ceremony in their home county.

How many award winners are there?

There are 32 regional award winners from which 12 will be shortlisted for the National Awards. There will be four national award winners - one for each category.

What date is the National Awards Ceremony and where is it being held?

The National Awards Ceremony is on the 13 July 2010 at a central London venue.

What is the closing date for entries?

The closing date for entries is on 21 April 2010

How much does it cost to enter?

It is free of charge to enter the Friends of the Forces Awards

Is there an age limit for nominees?

No there is not an age limit. The only age restrictions applies to the Young Individual category where nominees must be 17 years of age or under on 1 July 2010.

Can I nominate more than one person for an award?

Yes, there are no restrictions on the number of nominations you can submit.

Can I nominate myself or a group I lead?

Yes, you can nominate yourself or an organisation or group that you work or volunteer with.

Can I make changes to an entry once it has been submitted?

No, you cannot make changes to entries once they have been submitted.

Can I have my entry returned to me?

Unfortunately we are unable to return entries.

How do I know which region I fall in to?

Please see the regional map.

What if my text submission is longer than 1000 words?

The judges will only consider the first 1000 words.

What happens if we supply more than one image and one video or audio file?

The judges will only consider one image and one audio or video file.

What if I submit both an audio and a video file?

We will only judge the video file.

What if my audio or video file is longer than 2 minutes in duration?

The judges will only consider the first 2 minutes of the file.

How will I know if my application has been received?

A receipt of application will be sent to you via email if you have submitted online or by post if you have sent a hard copy of the form.
